Read Fr. Richard’s message about our Fall Fundraiser below.
Dear St. Mark’s family,
Many of you know that we were planning on hosting a Gala from the Margins fundraising event in October to raise vital funds for our ministries at St. Mark’s. Along with fundraising, we wanted the focus of the Gala to be around disability. However, after discussion, prayer, and feedback from our members with disabilities, we have decided to devote the season of Advent to exploring disability-related topics (more details about that are forthcoming) instead of at a one-night Gala event.
We also decided to change our Gala from the Margins to a direct ask for financial support via a No Gala Gala. What is a No Gala Gala? If you were planning on attending or supporting the Gala from the Margins you would have donated a sum of money for the ticket, for raffles, silent auctions, etc. For the No Gala Gala I am asking you to prayerfully consider still making that donation (or more!) even though there is no actual Gala event.
You know that St. Mark’s works hard to be a beacon for our local community of City Heights and a place of loving inclusion sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with everyone, without exception. If you are able to donate $5 we could use your donation to provide two blessings-in-a-bag for unhoused neighbors. $50 could allow us to rent a truck to pick up food from the San Diego Food Bank. $500 could enable us to buy fresh fruits and vegetables for a month for our food pantry, and $5,000 could help fund our music ministry that is such an important part of our accessible worship.
We have a goal of raising $5,000 between now and October 1st. Because of a group of committed supporters your donation will be matched by a doubling challenge grant. This means that every dollar you donate will become two dollars (up to $2,500). Will you contribute to this direct ask and help us reach our fundraiser goal? Your donation is needed to help us maintain our mission and ministry as God’s hands, here in City Heights.
