Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season, is on February 22, 2023. For nearly a decade now, St. Mark’s has participated in our diocesan-wide ministry of Ashes To Go. It is a day where we go out into our immediate neighborhood and offer ashes and prayers to those we encounter. While brief, these are grace-filled, sacred, and memorable moments. I will never forget the bus driver who exited his bus as the light turned red on the corner of Fairmount & University Avenues to get ashes, or folks who saw us on the street corner from their office windows several floors up, paused their work, and came down because they too wanted ashes.
We invite all parishioners to join in this ministry. No special skills are needed as all (clergy and lay) can distribute ashes. Let Fr. Richard or Br. Michael know if you’d like to join us.
Our parish Ash Wednesday service will be at 6 pm on February 22nd.
